Earning and Accumulating Chase Ultimate Rewards

Below, I outline the main ways in which to earn and accumulate Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

1. Points can be earned by using one of a variety of Chase credit cards that earn Ultimate Rewards.

The good news….each credit card gives a bonus on spending that you are likely already doing (and are probably doing on just any old credit card earning at most 1 to 1 points on the dollar). For example, are your buying groceries? Filling up your gas tank? Eating at restaurants? Shopping at drugstores? Meeting a friend for coffee at Starbucks? DO YOU SHOP ONLINE???? If you are doing these things on a daily basis, why not use a card or cards to complement your family’s spending habits that maximize points? For example, the card spending bonuses are below

Chase Sapphire Preferred-You get 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on travel such as airfare and hotels and on dining.  Currently, there is a 40,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards BONUS POINTS offer after you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months.  Note-there is a limited time 50,000 point bonus offer.

Chase Sapphire Reserve-You get 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on travel such as airfare and hotels and on dining.  Currently, there is a 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards BONUS POINTS offer after you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months.

Chase Freedom-With this card, your cash back earnings can be redeemed for Chase Ultimate Rewards points if you also have the Chase Ink Plus or Chase Sapphire Preferred card).  So I will talk about both here…..
Earn 5% cash back or 5X Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on up to $1,500 spent in bonus categories each quarter. (A maximum of 7,500 bonus Ultimate Rewards points) You’ll enjoy new categories every three months like gas stations, restaurants and Amazon.com. It’s free and easy to activate your bonus each quarter! See current year Cash Back Calendar.  There is a 15,000 ($150) Ultimate Rewards BONUS POINTS offer after you make $500 in purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.

Chase Freedom Unlimited-With this card, your cash back earnings can be redeemed for Chase Ultimate Rewards points if you also have the Chase Ink Plus or Chase Sapphire Preferred card).  So I will talk about both here…..
Earn 1.5% cash back or 1.5X Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on EVERY purchase.  There is a 15,000 ($150) Ultimate Rewards BONUS POINTS offer after you make $500 in purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.

Chase Ink Plus -You get 5X points per $1 on the first $50,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, internet and cable TV services each account anniversary year and you get 2X points per $1 on the first $50,000 spent in combined purchases at gas stations and hotel accommodations when purchased directly with the hotel each account anniversary year.  There is a 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards BONUS POINTS offer after you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months.  (There is currently a limited time 60,000 bonus point offer)

2. Points can be earned by shopping online at the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall

The Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall has over 300 top-brand retailers online and you can earn up to 10 extra points per dollar when you shop top retailers online, like Best Buy® Lowe’s, Macy’s and more.  Note, you cannot access the Chase Ultimate Rewards mall without being a cardmember of an Ultimate Rewards earning credit card.

3. Points can be earned when you book travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel

You get 1 extra Ultimate Rewards point per dollar spent when you book your airfare or hotel accommodations through Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel. You must pay for your travel with one of your Chase Ultimate Rewards cards. This means, for example, that if I am paying for the travel with my Sapphire Preferred, I am actually getting 3X Ultimate Rewards points per dollar as the Sapphire already gives me 2X on travel.

The two Ultimate Reward yielding Chase credit cards that are currently in my wallet and that I break out all of the time are the Chase Freedom Card and the Chase Sapphire Card.  The Chase Ink may be in my future.  From these two cards, I earn many many Ultimate Rewards Points.
