Achieving Marriott Bonvoy Elite Status

Covid Update-All Members’ current Elite status is extended through February 2023, whether earned in 2019 or 2020 or 2021.

When you join the Marriott Bonvoy program, you are a “member”.  Additionally, Marriott Bonvoy offers Silver Elite, Gold Elite, or Platinum Elite,Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite.  You are entitled to additional privileges and benefits with each level you reach.  There is also Lifetime Elite status which you can read about here.

There are 3 ways to reach Elite Status levels in the Marriott Bonvoy Program…

1.   Acquiring Nights 

One way to reach Elite Status levels is by staying and acquiring nights. These nights can be stays at the hotels and now for nights on a cruise with the Ritz Carlton Luxury Yacht Collection. Also, you can start with 15 elite night credits if you have the Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless CardChase Marriott Bonvoy Business CardChase Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit CardMarriott Bonvoy American Express CardMarriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card or the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card. If you have have both a small business Marriott Bonvoy Card account and a consumer Marriott Bonvoy Card account; then, you may receive a combined maximum of 30 Elite Night Credits (15 per Card account). You can have any combo of personal and business cards from Amex and Chase to get the 30 nights.

You need the following number of nights per year to achieve the following status levels.

Member-0-9 nights

Silver Elite-10-24 nights

Gold Elite-25-49 nights

Platinum Elite-50-74 nights

Titanium Elite-75-99 nights

Ambassador Elite-over 100 nights and $20,000 in qualifying spend.

You can earn Elite nights credit when you use points for stays.

2.   Having A Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card

Another way to reach status levels is by having and using a Marriot Bonvoy credit card issued by Chase or American Express. 

You will automatically receive Silver Elite Status each account anniversary year as you get 15 nights up front each year if you have the Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless CardChase Marriott Bonvoy Business CardChase Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit CardMarriott Bonvoy American Express Card, or the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card. You can up it to Gold Elite status after spending $35,000 or more in eligible purchases on your Card in a calendar year. You also get these 15 nights with the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card even though, as explained below, this card gives you Gold status.

You will automatically receive Gold Elite Status each account anniversary year if you have the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card. You can up it to Platinum Elite status after spending $75,000 or more in eligible purchases on your Card in a calendar year.

And now-You can earn 1 Elite Night Credit towards Elite Status for every $5,000 you spend with the Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card which comes with Silver status as noted above.

3.   Having an Amex Platinum Card

A final way in which you can earn Gold Elite status automatically, is by having an American Express Platinum card or Business Platinum card. With one of these cards, you can receive Gold status without having to meet frequent-stay minimums or spending thresholds.  This is how I always have Gold status.

4. Being a United MileagePlus members who are Premier Gold or higher 

You can sign up for Bonvoy Gold status through RewardsPlus if you are a United MileagePlus member who is Gold or higher
