Last month I took advantage of an offer to use my World of Hyatt Credit Card to make a certain number of purchases of $1 or more from February 1, 2021 to February 28, 2021. The terms of the offer were to receive 1,000 Bonus Points if you make 10 purchases, 1,500 additional Bonus Points if you make 25 total purchases (for a possible total of 2,500 Bonus Points), and 2,500 additional Bonus Points if you make 50 total purchases (for a possible total of 5,000 Bonus Points).
I decided to go for the maximum, and started to use my Hyatt card a lot, for small items when I could. However, early on I realized I would never make it to 50 in the short month of February, so I reallocated some credit from my Freedom Unlimited Card to this Hyatt card and linked the card to my Amazon account as the default card. Note, I had a very small credit line on my Hyatt card before this because normally I barely use it.
Anyway, once my Amazon was linked to the card, things really started moving. Everyone in my family had instructions to only make Amazon purchases with just one item in the cart at a time. (They are all used to my crazy requests). At Feb 28th, I was at about 50 purchases. However, I knew there was a chance some of our Amazon items could be returned. I was smart though, I gave the card to Rob who was going to the supermarket and instructed him to go to self-checkout and pay for 5 things separately.
He came home and told me that the card didn’t work. Huh? I blamed him for doing something wrong. I decided to buy 5 more things on Amazon that night (things that we need anyway).
On March 1, I went into my Hyatt card account to add up my 50 plus purchases. To my dismay, the Amazon purchases from the night before weren’t there!
It was then I realized that Rob didn’t mess up at the grocery store, my card had hit the credit limit and wasn’t allowing purchases! Ugh.
To add insult to injury, Amazon defaulted to my Amex Gold card for those final 5 purchases, only earning me 1x per $1, a rate I never accept on Amazon.
And sure enough, we have 2 Amazon returns. So I think in the end I will only be at about 48 purchases and will not get those additional 2500 World Of Hyatt points.
I hate when I mess up! 🙂
