Changes To The Amex Line Of Delta Cards And The Emails I Sent To My Clients Relaying These Changes

Learn About Delta SkyMiles Here

Instead of me doing a new post outlining the changes coming to all of the American Express Delta SkyMiles cards beginning January 30, 2020, I decided to be efficient and just cut and paste the emails that I send to my clients that have these cards.

Email to my clients that hold the American Express Blue Delta SkyMiles Card

You are getting this email because you have an American Express Delta Blue card.

You likely don’t use this card, and I still don’t want you to.

I just am emailing because there is a change with the card beginning Jan 30, 2020 where you can earn 2x Delta SkyMiles per $1 at restaurants versus the 1x miles you earn now.

Also, the card will no longer have foreign transaction fees.

I still wouldn’t advise using this card for any spending.  You are doing better with your other cards.

Email to my clients that hold the American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles Card

You are getting this email because you have an American Express Delta Gold card.

You likely don’t use this card for everyday spending, and I still don’t want you to.  I just am emailing because there are changes with the card beginning Jan 30, 2020…The changes are as follows…

Good changes-
1. You can earn 2x Delta SkyMiles per $1 at restaurants and supermarkets versus the 1x miles you earn now.
2.  The card will add a $100 credit for Delta flights when cardholders spend at least $10,000 in a calendar year. Eh!

Bad Changes
1.  You can’t access the Delta SkyClub as of Jan 30th (right now the card gets u in for a $29 fee).
2.  If you use this card and spend more than $25k in a year, this spending will no longer qualify for the MQD waiver.  (You only need to worry about this if you are earning Delta Status by spending $$$ on the card coupled with MANY Delta flights).
3.  The fee is increasing to $99 (from $95).
Again, I wouldn’t change any of your spending strategies with your other cards, and I would definitely still keep the card if you fly Delta and check bags.

Email to my clients that hold the American Express Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card

You are getting this email because you have an American Express Delta Platinum card.

You likely don’t use this card for everyday spending, and I still don’t want you to.  I just am emailing because there are changes with the card beginning Jan 30, 2020…The changes are as follows…

Good changes-
1. The earning structure is changing…starting Jan 30th, with the card, you will earn
          a) 3x miles per $1 on Delta purchases ( from 2x)
          b) 2x miles on hotel stays (directly purchased, so no intermediary), restaurants and supermarkets (from 1x)
          c) 1x miles on everything else.
2.  The card will also add a $100 credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry.

Bad Changes
1.  The fee is increasing to $250 (from $195).
Again, I wouldn’t change any of your spending strategies with your other cards, and I would definitely still keep the card if you fly Delta and you use the annual companion ticket that you get every year.

I don’t have any clients with the Delta Reserve Credit Card From American Express but here are some of the changes coming to that card too.

Good Changes

  1.  3x miles per $1 on Delta purchases ( from 2x)
  2. 2 Guest passes to the Delta Sky Club
  3. $100 credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry
  4. access to the American Express Centurion Lounges
  5. Upgrade Priority-if you are a cardmember and are a SkyMiles Medallion Member, you have priority over other passengers within the same Medallion tier and fare class grouping.

Bad Changes

  1. The fee is increasing to $550 (from $450).
