Recall that last year Rob was approved for (finally), a Capital One Spark Miles Business Card. I had him apply last year for his business because I wanted him to take advantage of the offering of UP TO 200,000 BONUS SPARK MILES for a hefty $50,000 spend in 6 months. (the usual bonus is 50,000 Spark Miles). It is not so hard to do that when you have your own law firm and Rob easily earned the 200,000 Spark Miles bonus.
Fast forward to 2019…Cap One raises the bonus again. As in 2018, they raised the offer on both the Spark Miles card (that Rob already had) as well as the Capital One Spark Cash Card. I could not resist again, and in the final days of the offer, I had Rob’s business apply again. Once again there was an approval! But……
They only gave Rob a $5k credit line on this card. (Rob got a much bigger credit line in 2018 on the Spark Miles card). Hmm, how was I to spend $50k in 6 months with just a $5,000 credit line?
I had an idea! Why not call Capital One and reallocate some of the credit from the Spark Miles to the Spark cash. Fail! Unlike Chase and Amex (not Citi either), Capital One will not reallocate credit lines between 2 cards.
I called Capital One and tried to get the credit limit raised, threatening to never use either card again if they didn’t raise it (threatening to deaf ears and to people who could not make the call). In about a week’s time, Rob got the letter rejecting the increase.
Who was I kidding, there was no way that I was not going to go for this $2k bonus despite all of my empty threats to Capital One.
I am lucky in that Rob has a very hefty SEO charge that he pays via credit card each month. I am luckier that I have a personal relationship with the one of the owners of the SEO company, and I frequently, throughout the year, change up the cards that will be the recipient of the monthly SEO charge.
I made a schedule, where they should charge the new Spark Cash Card $4,000 weekly. For the last two weeks, they have been charging $4,000 on Mondays and I pay it on Wednesdays (when it posts). I will continue this pattern for the next 3-4 months, till Rob hits the $50K.
You can’t beat me Capital One….I have the means and the brains to secure that $2k bonus! I can’t wait till it posts. :-).
UPDATE-I got my $1500 in cash on May 11th…yay me!
