The Points Mom

Chase May Be On To The Game

If you click on the terms and conditions with respect to Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers to frequent travel program accounts, you get warned by Chase that you…

“better not have engaged in fraudulent activity related to your credit card account or Ultimate Rewards, or that you’ve misused Ultimate Rewards in any way (for example by buying or selling points, moving or transferring points with or to an ineligible third party or account, or repeatedly opening or otherwise maintaining credit card accounts for the sole purpose of generating rewards).  If Chase finds any of this behavior, they state that they may temporarily prohibit you from earning points or using points you’ve already earned. If they believe you’ve engaged in any of these acts, they will close your credit card account and you’ll lose all your points.”

It is the bolded part of the message that concerns me.  Um isn’t that what I kind of do a lot?  Not only do I do it a lot, I frequently get a Chase rep on the phone to make my application process easier to pass because I just move credit from an existing card instead of asking for new credit.  I even usually tell the Chase rep that I want the card for the bonus.  Over the last couple of years I have applied for and gotten my Chase Marriott Rewards Premier card, and my Chase IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card  For Rob, it has worked with applications for his Chase Marriott Rewards Premier card too. and his Chase United MileagePlus Explorer Visa.  Maybe this is not enough to constitute “repeatedly opening”, but it concerns me nonetheless.
