I make sure that each quarter I activate my 5% cash back/5 Ultimate Rewards points bonus on the Chase Freedom card’s quarterly bonus categories.
I love the months that these bonus categories include restaurants, grocery stores and gas stations and I make sure I use the card to try to get as close to the $1500 limit as possible (an easy feat when it is restaurants and grocery stores-gas stations not so much).
This quarter, July 1-September 30, 2019 is gas stations. I wisely and happily used my Freedom card throughout the month of July when I went to get gas. When August came and I went to use my card, I got a message at the gas station that my card had expired. Huh, it did! It expired on July 31.
After forgetting to call for a few weeks, and frustratingly getting gas with the “wrong card”, I finally called Chase and told them I never received new cards. They said they mailed them earlier in the year but I obviously didn’t get them.
I told the Chase rep I was bummed that I had been missing out on all of my 5x gas purchases over the month of August and asked if I could get any goodwill points. He said “sure” and 1000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points was immediately deposited into my account.
It never hurts to ask for some goodwill. It often works!
