Amex’s New Benefit-Trip Cancel Guard

American Express cards have a new feature called Trip Cancel Guard. It is kind of like Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) insurance for flights. Note, it is not travel insurance and can be puchased in addition to travel insurance if you are someone who buys travel insurance.

This new Trip Cancel Guard benefit provides up to 75% reimbursement if you cancel your eligible nonrefundable flight at least two full calendar days before. In order to take advantage of this benefit, you had to book your flights thru AmexTravel. Both paying for your flights with $ or taking advantage of “Pay With Points”, will be eligible to receive the benefit. You need to add it at the time of booking! The cost is 8% of your ticket inclusive of taxes and fees.

Note, this benefit applies only before your trip starts and does not offer coverage during your trip or return flight.

We all know that travel credits expire and can be tough to use. So if you get a travel credit or airline voucher for your cancelled trip, Trip Cancel Guard can provide reimbursement once the credit or voucher has expired or is forfeited by its own terms and conditions.
