With many of the Bonvoy cards that are issued by Chase and Amex, you receive 1 free night every year after your cardmember anniversary. The free nights range from stays worth 25,000 Bonvoy points to 50,000 Bonvoy points, depending on which card you hold. I love the free anniversary nights, and advise people that these free nights, as long as you can use them, often justify the annual fee.
However, one downside to the free night, used to be an annoyance factor. That is, you needed to call Bonvoy to actually use the free night. That is no longer the case. Now when you go to make your Bonvoy reservation, where you used to click “Use Points”, it actually now says “Use Points/Certificates” and will give you the choice when you go to book as to whether to use points or the free night certificate.
This tool is now in line with some other hotel loyalty programs like Hyatt and IHG.
