After lots and lots of rumors as to who was going to buy Starwood, it was announced today that the winner is Marriott at a price of $12.2 billion. This acquisition, will make this the biggest hotel company in the world.
Together, the companies will operate or franchise 5,500 hotels with a total of 1.1 million rooms. The company will span 100 countries.
As for their Rewards programs and what will happen with those, we shall find out as it all unfolds. Both Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest have some attractive features, maybe they will take the best from both! One could hope….
