The Points Mom

I Lost Some Value When I Redeemed My U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Points

Unknown

Recall, I Got The U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite Card last summer with a 50,000 point bonus offer.  I was aware that redeeming the points for travel was worth $.0150 (one and a half cents-100 points equals $1.50 in redemption value).  However, the terms of the card were very unclear when I got the card last year and I thought I could redeem my points at .015 on all travel.

So, I used the card for many travel purchases on my recent trip to London.  I used it for taxis, and ubers and for the incidentals at my hotel. I used it for the tube and for the train to and from the airport.  I used it and used it and used it thinking I would be able to redeem my points at 1.5 cents.  I was wrong!

You can only get the 1.5 rate when you book travel through the Altitude Reserve site, despite the fact that there terms still state…

“When you redeem Points for travel (airlines, hotels and car rentals), each Point is worth $.015, which means that 30,000 Points equals $450.00 in redemption value.”

Nowhere above does it state that it needs to be travel booked via the site.

I could have pushed it and I still may, but anyone who I got on the phone wasn’t savvy enough to understand the lack of specific language in the terms.  I finally did get a manager on the phone, only to get disconnected.  I gave up for awhile, my bill was becoming due.  I reluctantly redeemed at the non travel rate of .01 cents per point.

I still may try to adjust the point balance when I have the time and the patience to call.
