How I Saved My Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles From Expiring

This morning I got an email that my small balance (about 12k) of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles was due to expire at the end of the year.  Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles do not have an expiration date and may remain in an active account indefinitely.  HOWEVER, if a Mileage Plan account is inactive for 2 years (mine was), Alaska Airlines may close the account and delete any mileage balance.

Activity includes redeeming a Mileage Plan award or accruing mileage in the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program. To save my miles from possible expiration, I did something that I think will be deemed as ” accruing mileage”.  I transferred Bonvoy points to my Mileage Plan account.

Marriott Bonvoy members can transfer 3 Marriott Bonvoy points to receive 1 Mileage Plan mile. So I transferred in 3,000 Bonvoy points to my Mileage Plan Account that will yield 1000 miles. I think that should qualify as activity and should reset my clock.
