DOJ Investigating Coordination By Airlines To Limit Supply

As per the SKIMM this morning, the Justice Department is investigating whether airlines have colluded to limit available seats and flights, in order to keep demand – and ticket prices – high.

In recent years there have been a series of mergers which have allowed just four airlines to control 80% of the US industry.  The most recent merger being that between American and US Airways.  Having fewer airlines, certainly could provide more opportunity for collusion in limiting supply.

 

According to other news sources, Delta, United, American and Southwest airlines have all received subpoenas to turn over info to the DOJ.
