Right now, when you use Membership Rewards Pay with Points to pay for all or part of your flight, hotel, vacation or cruise booking on the American Express Travel site, you can get 20% of the points back as a credit to your Membership Rewards account.

However, effective July 1, 2015, Business Platinum card members will no longer receive this 20% of Membership Rewards points back when booking a trip with American Express Travel Pay With Points.  You can still use Pay With Points to book.

This 20% travel bonus put the Amex Business Platinum on par with Chase Ultimate Rewards cards, where despite which card you have, you get a 20% travel bonus when redeeming points.

If you were someone with an American Express Business Platinum card and used Pay With Points to book travel, you may feel this change.  Take solace in the fact that the regular Platinum card did not have this benefit anyway and the Amex Business Platinum still offers many other great benefits.  Also, even if they are taking away benefits, they are adding benefits too.  Recall that a new benefit for American Express Business Platinum Card Members is access to the Gogo Preferred Program exclusively from American Express. This means that Business Platinum Card Members will be able to access 10 complimentary Gogo inflight internet passes each calendar year.  Read about that here.
