“All In” With My Girlfriends At Mohegan Sun

By Meri Alexander Trips with your family are great, but so are quick, fun trips with your friends to just unwind, sleep late & gamble!  How about a place that can be both? I just got back from a very short (less than 24 hours) overnight trip that really helped recharge the batteries. I went with 4 girlfriends (one was the Points Mom) to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT.  Now, before you judge…we have been playing in a girls poker group for about 10 years, so we had an ulterior… more

Our Happy Place-One Family’s 12 Summers In Ogunquit, Maine

By Jake Miller During 12 of the past 13 summers, my family has traveled to Ogunquit Maine for a week at the end of the summer.  This is our Happy Place – where we can relax and spend great family time before returning to work and school in the Fall.  We like to rent a house so we can spread out for a more comfortable stay.  Others of our friends love to stay at the Anchorage Hotel, right in town, with a pool, hot tub, and easy access to the beach.  The activities in Maine… more

Dreams Come True In Cooperstown

By Bonnie Berg I can’t believe it’s already been a few weeks since we returned from Cooperstown, NY.  The last load of laundry has finally been folded and put away.  We are back to school and following our normal routines.  However, the memories made on this trip will last forever. My son’s baseball team worked long and hard for the last five years to make it to Cooperstown. We were excited to finally say, “Cooperstown Dream Park, here come the New Castle Yankees!” In preparing for… more

Tennis And Beach-A Perfect Combo In Hilton Head

By Cindy Wallis This summer, my goal was to give my boys a different tennis experience than what they have had in the past, as well as have an enjoyable family vacation.  We were able to accomplish both goals while visiting Hilton Head, South Carolina. Hilton Head is a quick and easy destination to reach.  We flew into Savannah, Georgia (only a 1 hour 40 minute flight from JFK!), and then rented a car.  Door to door, the ride from Savannah to Hilton Head was a mere 45… more

Port, Peacocks And A Big Soccer Win!-15 Amazing Days In Portugal

By Danielle Lerner David and I just had our teenage girls (19 and 17) around this summer as our two younger kids were off at camp.  We decided to use this opportunity to bring them along on an “adult” sightseeing vacation before they both leave for college. :-(.  This was the first time we traveled with just the two of them since my 14 year old son was born.  I had traveled to Europe with my 19 year old the last two summers, therefore, I knew how much more intimate this could be than… more

Paris & Provence Welcomed Us With Open Arms This Summer

By Roberta Lasky Six hours after my kids’ bus safely departed for sleep away camp, I zipped off to Kennedy Airport for my flight to Paris. This was the unbelievable view from our room in Paris ! Since my husband had already been in Paris for a week on a business trip, the hotel arrangements were set.  We were staying in Paris for the first two nights so I could adjust to the time change before embarking on our journey south to Provence. Seven hours and two movies later… more

Such A Great Time Keepin’ Portland Weird!

By Wendi Gordon Recently my husband and I took our first trip to Portland, OR. We chose Portland after hearing about how much fun the city is and all it had to offer. Two additional couples decided to join us, and as luck would have it, the Points Mom herself, was on our trip!  It was like having our own personal “activities director” and we were able to get the most out of the city as possible. We stayed at the Nines Hotel (Starwood) in the downtown area.  Although, the hotel had mixed… more

A Big Anniversary Trip To Antigua’s Jumby Bay

By Emily Ginsberg For our big anniversary, my husband and I wanted to go somewhere with 1) a white sandy beach, 2) clear calm water, 3) great food and service, and 4) luxurious accommodations.  After doing some research, Jumby Bay, a Rosewood Resort in Antigua, fit the bill perfectly. Jumby Bay is a a 300-acre private Caribbean island two miles from Antigua. Antigua is a quick flight from New York and many of the flights on American and JetBlue are direct.  When you get off the plane… more

Finally Made It To Cape Cod

By Jodi Baretz After many summers on the Jersey Shore, I was ready for something new.  I have never been to Cape Cod, and every year that I suggested we go, it was shot down by my husband due to the long drive.  However, when I discovered a professional training seminar I wanted to attend was being held at the Cape Cod Institute, I got my chance.  I grabbed a colleague, and off we went.  We stayed in Eastham, which is near the Institute (really the local high school that they rent for… more
