Before You Apply For A Card, Make Sure You Can Use The Free Nights Bonus Offer Before The Expiration Date

I had much success using the 2 free night sign up bonus that I received for getting the Chase Hyatt Visa a few years back.  I ended up using these 2 free nights, for my family, at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa in Bonita Springs Florida.  You can read about that stay here.

Excited after our stay, I had Rob apply for the card as well.  I wanted those 2 free nights again!!!  He got the card.  He got the 2 free nights.   Fast forward, the 2 free nights still sit in his account with a looming expiration date of July 31st.

I have racked my brain to try to find a weekend for my family to use them before the July 31st deadline.  I can’t do it.  (All of our school vacation plans are set and we have a family Bar Mitzvah Memorial Day weekend.).  Recently, I gave Rob’s free anniversary night to my sister to avoid an expiration date.  Her and her husband were able to use this night at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson.  It was a win-win.

But I want to use these nights.  After all, I had Rob apply for the card just so we could get these 2 free nights. I will also mention that I called Hyatt to try to get an extension, request denied.  I also asked if they could convert these free nights to points.  That request was denied as well. My kids leave for sleep away camp the last weekend of June.  Although I love being in my empty house without them, Rob and I are going to have to leave our empty home and spend 2 nights in the city.  Not to mention, we will have to pay someone to watch our dogs.  Unless I can come up with a better plan.  Which eventually I did, read about how I am using the nights here.

In retrospect, I wish I did not waste one of Rob’s credit card applications on the Hyatt card.  Don’t make the same mistake as me.  Make sure you have a Hyatt stay in mind before applying for the card and don’t wait to long to use it.
