The Points Mom

I Just Got My 60,000 Citi ThankYou Rewards Points And I Am Excited To Add To That Balance

Apply for the Citi ThankYou Premier Card Here

This past summer, I got the Citi ThankYou Premier Card because Citi ThankYou Rewards points intrigue me (I am so partial to Chase and Amex) but also because I took advantage of an increased bonus offer of 60,000 ThankYou Points with a minimum spend of $4,000 (the bonus has now resorted back to 50,000 ThankYou points).

Now that I just landed the 60,000 point bonus, which starts me off with a nice balance, I actually think I will use this card on all of my entertainment purchases where I will earn 2x points per $1 spent. (I already have other cards that I use for Citi’s other bonus categories, but nothing for entertainment).

According to Citi, entertainment includes the following:

“select entertainment merchants, include sports promoters, theatrical promoters, movie theaters, amusement parks, tourist attractions, record stores and video rental stores.
Sports promoters are classified as merchants that operate and promote live sporting events (professional or semi-professional), and may also include sports stadiums. Theatrical promoters are classified as merchants that operate live theatrical productions or concerts, and include ticketing agencies. Movie theaters are classified as establishments that sell tickets and refreshments for movie productions. Amusement parks (including zoos, circuses and aquariums) are classified as establishments that operate parks or carnivals and offer mechanical rides and games and/or live animal shows. Tourist attractions and museums (including art galleries) are classified as establishments that operate attractions and exhibits for tourists. Record stores are classified as establishments that sell CDs and related items, including online record stores. Video rental stores are classified as merchants that rent DVDs and/or games and related equipment for consumer use, including online video rentals.”

The card will not be relegated to my drawer, but instead will be placed into my wallet.  I may even break it out for gas as well. Maybe I will get Daniel, my new driver, an authorized user card for his gas too.  I am excited to delve into the world of Citi ThankYou points now that I have a nice balance.

Recall, with the card, there is a $0 Introductory annual Fee the first year, then $95.  You earn 3x ThankYou Points on Travel that includes Airfare, HotelsTravel AgenciesGas and Parking.  You earn 2x ThankYou Points on Dining out and Entertainment. You earn 1X ThankYou Points on other purchases

There are no foreign transaction fees when you use your card on purchases made outside the United States.  You need 20% fewer points when redeeming ThankYou points for airfare through the Citi ThankYou Travel Center.  This means one Citi ThankYou point equals $0.0125 incremental value on travel. For example, a $250 airline ticket will cost you 20,000 Citi ThankYou points.  Click here to learn more about redeeming points.

Lastly, you can transfer points to participating frequent travel programs with no transfer fees.  Most points transfer at full 1:1 value – that means 1000 ThankYou points equal 1000 partner miles/points.  The participating Travel Loyalty Programs include JetBlue TrueBlue, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, and a bunch of others.  Click here for a full list of transfer partners.
