Early Sapphire Reserve Recipients-Your $300 Travel Credit Has Renewed

Recall that with the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card you automatically receive up to $300 in statement credits as reimbursement for travel-related purchases charged to your card.

If you were an early recipient (before May 21 2017) of the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, like I was, our $300 statement credits for travel-related purchases charged to our card has restarted.  The credits actually should have renewed with our December statement, and if you used your Sapphire Reserve for travel this past December, you should see the credit being applied.  Many of my recent Morocco travel charges that hit in December, that I charged to my Sapphire Reserve, are being credited back now.

For later Sapphire Reserve card members, (after May 21, 2017), your $300 annual statement credit is tied to your cardmember year.  You should know when this credit resets so you can take full advantage of it.

Don’t forget, travel-related purchases are defined by Chase as follows:

“Merchants in the travel category include airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares, campgrounds, car rental agencies, cruise lines, travel agencies, discount travel sites, and operators of passenger trains, buses, taxis, limousines, ferries, toll bridges and highways, and parking lots and garages. Please note that some merchants that provide transportation and travel-related services are not included in this category; for example, real estate agents, websites or owners that rent properties, in-flight goods and services, sightseeing activities, including sightseeing activities that take place on vehicles such as dinner cruises and tour buses, tourist attractions, merchants within airports, and merchants that rent trailers, trucks, and other vehicles for the purpose of hauling.”

I love this benefit of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and think of this credit as an automatic deduction off of the hefty $450 annual fee.  As you can see from the above definition, there is quite a broad definition of travel and I cannot imagine anyone not being able to take advantage of it in a 12 month period.

Happy traveling-the first $300 is free!
