I often tell you that before you cancel a card, see if you can move your credit line to another card that you already have from that same bank. I always do this before I cancel cards.
However, I hit a snag in recently trying to cancel a bunch of Amex Hilton Honors cards. Although I was able to reallocate some credit to other cards immediately, other reallocations went in for “approval”.
About a week later, I got a letter from Amex denying one of the reallocations because “you cannot reallocate credit limits between your accounts more than once during a 30 day period”. Huh?!?!?!?
Ok Amex, I won’t make a big deal and call, etc. I will just try again in 30 days.
