My 11 year old son, Mason, is a huge Broncos fan!  He has made my husband, Rob, somewhat of a Broncos fan as well.  Once we knew the Broncos were playing home in the second round of playoffs, Mason, started a very impressive, determined, endless pursuit to find reasonably prices tickets for the Denver playoff game.  Guess what–he did!

We decided to explore the possibility of Rob actually taking him, and we decided that if I could work my magic and get them free flights and hotel, then they would go. Of course I could work my magic!  A few months back, Rob got 50,000 Delta miles for applying for and meeting the $1,000 minimum spend requirement on his American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles Card.  When I went to look up flights, I found convenient direct Delta flights for 25,000 miles each.  Perfect! I must admit, at the time, I did not look at the price of the flights.  I thought the 25k requirement was very reasonable compared to what I have seen from Delta in the past.  So I booked the tickets, using Rob’s 50,000 Delta miles.

Fast forward, the Colts advance to the second round of playoffs and are playing in Denver.  Don’t forget, Manning used to play for the Colts.  This is going to be a big game!  I just looked at the price of their plane tickets now.  They are $765 each.  Maybe because of the increased demand because of the Colts, maybe not.  Regardless, we got a very sweet deal using miles!

Remember, part of the deal was that they needed to stay for free as well.  Easy!  Although I did try to book them first at the Westin in Denver, this hotel was sold out.  Instead, I booked them at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, an SPG Category 4, Starwood Resort.  This room was 10,000 Starpoints per night for nights.  The room would have cost about $150 per night.  A savings of $300. Maybe at this low rate, we should have paid for the rooms, but we have a lot of Starwood points to play with, and after all, the free hotel was part of the deal we made.  Go Broncos!
