Recall, every year, Platinum card members receive up to $200 a year in statement credits when incidental fees, such as baggage fees, flight-change fees, in-flight food and beverage purchases, and airport lounge day passes, are charged by the airline of your choice to your Platinum card account.

Well at the beginning of this year, I chose Delta because we were flying Delta for a ski trip to Whistler and I knew we would have additional baggage fees because of all of the ski totes.  Well guess what?  I just got an email from Amex indicating that I still have $171 left of my annual credit.  Further research indicated that I must have forgotten about the credit back in March and I paid for my bags with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card.  Oops!

The Amex terms state that “Card Members who have already selected a qualifying airline will be able to change their choice one time each year in January.”  Uh oh…

Luckily, Amex made an exception for me when I called and they changed my airline to United, which we are flying when we go to LA for Christmas break.  I will make sure that we spend this $171 even if we have to buy a round of drinks for our neighboring passengers.  🙂

Thx Amex for being flexible!
