I usually activate my 5% quarterly Freedom bonus, the first day I can do so. That way, I am guaranteed getting the points. However, last quarter, I forgot to activate in March for the 2nd quarter bonus and did not remember until June. I had been using my Chase Freedom card at grocery stores for April and May because that was one of the 2nd quarter bonus categories. I thought I was getting the 5 points per $1 spent.
Recall, last quarter, you were able to activate your 5% cash back/5 Ultimate Rewards points per $ spent in bonus categories on your Chase Freedom card by June 14, 2016. Luckily, I realized, before the June 14 deadline, that I had not activated and did so.
Luckily again, Chase is quite specific in that no matter when you activate as long as it’s by a certain date (in my case June 14, 2016), you will get your bonus points retroactively for all of your bonus category shopping.
I waited to see my points appear retroactively on my statement. They did not appear on my May statement. I called. The Chase rep assured me they would appear on my June statement. They did not. I called again. Once again, I was told the retroactive points would appear on my July statement. Once again, the Chase rep was wrong. I got my August statement yesterday. Guess what? The retroactive Chase points have still not posted.
I called again. I got a very nice man on the phone who “put in an escalation” so that the matter would quickly be resolved. I await for the resolution and will update this post accordingly. I am confident I will receive these retroactive points.
In the meantime, the rep was so apologetic that I had to call in so many times to fix this issue that he gave me 2,500 goodwill points. This is just one more example of a rewards windfall. Thx Chase!
Update-On July 27th, I received 5,665 Chase Ultimate Rewards points into my account for the retroactive bonus points from the 2nd quarter. Thx for the resolution Chase!
