Mt. Marcy Summit Off The Bucket List

Summit of Mt. Marcy-freezing and can’t see a thing!

Since my kids left for camp for 7 weeks, Rob and I traveled to Lake Placid solo with some of our friends.  We wanted to stay in town, and also wanted to be on the lake (btw, Mirror Lake is the lake in town, not Lake Plaicd).

We stayed three nights at the Golden Arrow.  Although, in my opinion, the hotel needs an upgrade, the view of the Mirror Lake from the hotel is amazing.IMG_3120  The hotel has a private beach on the lake (which we did not use–it was too chilly), a restaurant with a different unbelievable view, and an indoor pool, sauna and hot tub.  Rob was satisfied with the gym.

We spent our time meandering around the town and checking out many of Lake Placid’s dining establishments.  We had lunch at Jimmys 21 (another great lake view), dinner at Generations (in our hotel) and another dinner at the the highly recommended Smoke Signals, which deserved all its praise.  Before we headed home, we had a delicious and filling breakfast at the breakfast club, etc., which was definitely worth the 30 minute wait.  Every night, we had ice cream at Emma’s which was absolutely amazing.  Yes, I tried the maple soft serve.  It was a little too sweet for me, but I can see why people love it.  I had black raspberry soft serve with chocolate sprinkles every night.  My friends also loved the many varieties of Whoopie pies.

IMG_3132Oh, and did I mention that I summited Mt. Marcy?  Yes, this was the main purpose of our Lake Placid trip.  It was a 15 mile round trip hike to the summit and back.  I did it with my two girlfriends.  Rob stayed behind with the guys and played golf.  It was definitely challenging and a long day (about 9.5 hours).  When we got to the summit, the view was………………….non-existent, and the temperature was absolutely freezing.  Luckily, I had all of my gear that I bought last year for my hike up Pikes Peak.  Despite, the view and the cold, it was a great day and a huge accomplishment.  Yay us!
