…to earn a lot of rewards the next time I purchase Hamilton tickets.

I was one of the lucky ones that saw Hamilton last summer (at regular ticket prices!) before all of the hype.  I knew little about it, but I purchased the tickets because it was highly recommended by a friend whose opinion I greatly respect.  To prepare for the night, Rob and I read an early New York Times Magazine article about Lin-Manuel Miranda and his story, and we were hooked even before we went to the show.

We introduced the soundtrack to our kids soon after.  Now, like many households today, our family is obsessed with Hamilton.  My 14 year old son, Daniel, enters the Hamilton lottery everyday that we have a flexible schedule.  We haven’t won…yet…

Rob actually did take Daniel to Hamilton on the day of his 14th birthday.  For these tickets, we monitored the StubHub prices all day and ultimately purchased two rear mezzanine tickets for …I am not going to say.  But still less than what I hear other tickets are going for.  I am nervous for this coming October, the month of our twins’ birthday, when I believe we will be convinced to buy three more Hamilton tickets.

If you have a Citibank card that earns ThankYou Rewards, you can earn bonus points on “entertainment” purchases.  Theatrical promoters are specifically mentioned in Citi’s definition of “entertainment” and are classified as merchants that operate live theatrical productions or concerts, and include ticketing agencies.  With the Citi ThankYou Premier, Preferred, and the Prestige card, you earn two (2) ThankYou Rewards points for every $1 you spend on entertainment.  Needless to say, if you have a Citi ThankYou card, you should consider using it for all of your Broadway show tickets.

You can also consider using a card that offers bonus rewards on every purchase.  One of my favorites is the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard which allows you to earn 2 miles per dollar on every purchase.  This is what I used for our Hamilton tickets.
