The Points Mom

My Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card And Rob’s Card Too

My daughter has a swim meet every year in St. Peterburg, Florida, so her and I definitely stay in at least one Marriott a year at the The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club. Last year, I could not pass up the offer for 50,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points upon getting the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card. (Rob just took advantage of a 70,000 bonus point offer.) Marriott Hotels

My task to get the points: spend $2,000 in 3 months. So I did! Don’t forget, I spent this $2,000 on my normal purchases. I am not buying anything extra to meet these minimum spend requirements. I just merely made the Marriott credit card my main credit card until I hit $2,000. Then I put the card in my drawer. Oh, and the fee was waived the first year!

These 50,000 Marriott Rewards points gave me 2 nights free out of my 4 night stay. (Each night required 25,000 points). But I wanted the whole hotel stay for free. So I transferred another 50,000 points out of my Chase Ultimate Rewards Account into my Marriott Rewards Account. Boom, my whole stay on points!!!! Nice!! And Don’t forget, our JetBlue flights were on points too.

So you think my offer was good? Well Rob just took advantage of an offer to receive 70,000! Marriott Reward bonus points if you spend $2,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening, and the annual fee is waived the first year. WOW!   Although the current offer is back down to 50,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points, if there is a Marriott stay in your future, I would definitely apply for this card!   Also don’t forget, if you have applied for another Chase card in the last 6 months, and Chase denies you, call them at 888-609-7805 or 888-270-2127 and see if they can reallocate some of your Chase credit lines, a tactic that has definitely worked for me in the past. See item #6 in Getting Started.

However, full disclosure….when year 2 for me came along and I got a bill for the $85 annual fee on a card I was no longer using anyway, I canceled the card. As I have personally found, unlike American Express and Citibank, Chase will not negotiate the annual fee. See item 7 in Getting Started. Although this card has some really good point earning benefits (like the $2 points per dollar on airline tickets and restaurants), I am already receiving many of these same perks on my Chase Sapphire Card, a card that earns me very valuable Ultimate Rewards points that I can transfer to my Marriott Rewards account anyway. For me, this card was all about getting the spending bonus. I hope Chase offers it to me again in the future!
