One way to reach Silver, Gold and Platinum Elite Status levels is by acquiring night credits. There are 2 ways to acquire credits.

1.  The first way is based on your qualifying nights stayed at a Marriott/Ritz Carlton resort.  You earn qualifying night credits in your Marriott Rewards account when you stay at these Marriott/Ritz properties.  A qualifying night is any night stayed at a participating hotel and paid for by the member with cash/credit card. OR As of  November 1, 2015, you can earn Elite nights credit when you use points for stays.

2.  The second way to acquire credits is by using a Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card or the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit Card.  With the cards, you’ll receive 15 Elite Night Credits after account opening and every year after your account anniversary, giving you guaranteed Silver Elite status every year.  In addition, every $3,000 you spend on purchases with the card earns you 1 additional night credit toward Elite status – with no limit to the number of credits you can earn.

So now you know that you can acquire credits by staying or spending. No matter which way you acquire your credits, to achieve or renew Elite Membership status, the following number of credits must be acquired between January 1 and December 31 of any given year:

Silver 10 to 49 nights     Gold 50 to 74 nights     Platinum 75 or more nights

Another way to reach Gold Elite Status is to make purchases totaling $50,000 or more in each of your account anniversary years (the year beginning with your account open date through the first statement after the anniversary of your account open date, your given year).  If you can spend the 50K, you will qualify for Gold Elite Status through December 31 of the following year.  You will continue to be a Gold member if each anniversary year, you spend the $50,000.
