I Just Ordered Outdoor Photographer Magazine So My Southwest Rapid Rewards Miles Don’t Expire

I closed my Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards card back in September 2014 because I did not use the card and I did not want to continue paying the annual fee.  Fast forward 2 years until now in which I have not flown on Southwest and obviously have had no activity using the card.  Accordingly, I received an email from Rapid Rewards indicating that my miles were set to expire in December of this year.  With Southwest Rapid Rewards, your Rapid Rewards points expire if there is no “qualifying activity” after 24 months.

have over a 50,000 point balance from the Chase card sign-up bonus back in 2013.  I currently have no plans to fly Southwest in the next 2 months, nor am I in the market to apply for the card again at the moment.  To save my 50K point balance from expiring, the option that I chose as my “qualifying activity” was to shop through the Southwest Rewards shopping portal.  I bought a 12 month Outdoor Photographer subscription for about $10 and will earn 15 Rapid Rewards points per $1 spent for this subscription.  The miles hitting my account will start the 24 month clock all over again.

And who knows, maybe I will get some great photo taking ideas too!
