I Am Canceling Both Mine And Rob’s American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles Cards

Unknown-2

I canceled both mine and Rob’s American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles cards.
Remember, Rob and I got the cards last year because we each received 50,000 Delta SkyMiles for spending $1,000 in the first 3 months and the $95 annual fees were waived the first year.  (The current offer is back down to 30,000 Delta SkyMiles.)  Neither one of us ever used the cards after receiving the initial 50,000 bonus miles.

I just got the bill for the $95 annual fee on each card.  We never use these cards and do not want to pay the annual fee. I called American Express and asked them to waive the fees, they said no.

The reason I even called to ask is because I have had success in the past negotiating annual fees.   In fact, Citibank always used to credit back the annual fees if I met “their demands”.  That is to make X number of purchases or X dollars worth of purchases in a certain time period.  However, even in my recent call to negotiate an annual fee with Citibank, they offered me nothing and I had to cancel a card.  They must be taking the lead from American Express, as when I called, American Express did not budge for me as to waiving these Delta Amex annual fees.  So like I said, I canceled the cards.  You can read more about what you should know about canceling cards here.

One thing to note, canceling a card has a small impact on your credit score as long as other positive financial factors are in place. You can read about the effect of canceling a card on your credit score here.
