The number of Starwood Resorts that we have stayed at for free over the years is countless and most of those stays have been in the luxurious SPG categories 5 and 6 and even 7! Some recent favorite ones have been a July 4th golf getaway to Stratton/Manchester, Vermont at Equinox Resort & Spa (SPG Category 5) , a well needed romantic and relaxing getaway one summer with my husband to Monarch Beach with a stay at the amazing St Regis, Monarch Beach (SPG Category 6), a stay in a huge (I mean HUGE) suite with my family over a past December break in London at the Park Lane Hotel (SPG Category 5), and this past December a stay in Costa Rica at the relatively new, all inclusive, really nice Westin Golf Resort and Spa, Playa Conceal (SPG Category 7!!!!).

Wait, I am forgetting the best part. Almost every time you book a room at a Starwood resort, if you book four nights, the 5th night is free. So our five night stay in Colorado, cost us 48,000 Starpoints for 5 nights or just 9,600 Starpoints per night. WOW!!!!

Does your family ski? There are many Starwood Resorts in Colorado. Over the last few years, we have skied in Snowmass, CO with a free ski in/ski out stay at The Westin Snowmass Resort (SPG Category 5), we skied in Steamboat, CO with a free ski in/ski out stay at the Steamboat Sheraton Resort (SPG Category 5) and we frequent Beaver Creek and Vail a lot and there we have stayed there at the Sheraton Mountain Vista (SPG Category 5) and many times at the amazing Westin Riverfront (SPG Category 5). We happen to stay in Westins and Sheratons a lot as I feel these are a good fit for my family right now. I am aware that these resorts are not like the Four Seasons (only stayed at one on my Hawaiian honeymoon ), but my kids are 12, 10 and 10 and if nobody is coming up to them and spritzing them at the pool when they are too hot—well, I think that’s a good thing!!

I happen to be Starwood Preferred Guest Gold Member. As a Gold Member, I actually earn three Starpoints per dollar spent at Starwood Resorts. At cheek in, I usually get a room upgrade. I get 4 pm check out and usually get the internet for free. In addition, I can request and have a better shot of getting early check in, which can sometimes be a lifesaver with the young kids!!!
