If you foresee a trip to Canada in your future, you may want to consider getting a card that will bring you closer to redeeming free flights on Air Canada using Aeroplan miles.

American Express offers 2 Aeroplan charge cards and don’t forget, with a charge card, there is no spending limit and no interest rate. You can spend as much as you want on the card but you have to pay your bill in full and on time.

1.  American Express AeroplanPlus Platinum Card

The current offer for this card is to earn 40,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles after you spend $3,000 in your first three months of Cardmembership.  After that, you earn 1.25 Aeroplan Miles for every $1 of card purchases up to $25,000 annually.  If you hit the $25,000, you accelerate your earn rate to 1.5 miles for every dollar in purchases over $25,000 annually.  This card comes with a hefty annual fee of $499 and an additional $199 annual fee for additional card members.  (Note there is a $50 annual fee for additional AeroplanPlus Gold cards).  Some additional benefits include 1) Once per year, you can redeem 15,000 Aeroplan Miles for a short-haul round-trip ClassicFlight reward seat in economy class and receive a second Partner Ticket for the same itinerary; 2) Get Air Canada Priority Check In; 3)  Get access to Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges.  You can learn more card here.

2.  American Express AeroplanPlus Gold Card

The current offer for this card is to earn 15,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles after you spend $1500 in your first three months of Card membership.  After that, you earn 1 Aeroplan Mile for every $1 in Card purchases up to $10,000.  If you hit the $10,000, you accelerate your earn rate to 1.25 Aeroplan Miles for every additional $1 in Card purchases over $10,000 annually.  The annual fee for this card is a bit more palatable at $120.  In addition, you get two free Supplementary Cards ($50 for each additional Supplementary Cards after the first 2).  You can read about some of the other features and benefits of this card here.
